Fiscal Year 2023 Annual Report

Dear friends and supporters,

Last year stands out as a defining moment for Hands On Atlanta. I’m so proud of our resilient team, our forward-thinking board, our steadfast partners, and the 42,000 remarkable volunteers who answered the call to serve our community. Our work is hard and tackling the challenges faced by our community is a never-ending task, yet our team stayed committed, adapted, and thrived, experiencing a 30% increase in our overall impact. It’s one thing to talk about our CARE values – Collaborative, Authentic, Relentless, Entrepreneurial – and quite another to live them out daily, as we’ve done.

Financially, the year concluded on an empowering note with a surplus of nearly $500,000. This isn’t merely a cushion; it’s a launching pad for the impactful initiatives we have planned for FY24. Our fiscal stability allows us the freedom to reinvest in our team and extend the reach of our work even further.

While this annual report looks back at the year behind us, let’s not get lost in the rearview mirror. With the unveiling of our 5-year strategic plan, we’ve laid down a roadmap to guide us through the complexities and opportunities ahead. And as we inch closer to engaging our 1,000,000th volunteer in 2024, we’re not just hitting milestones, we’re creating a legacy.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Your unwavering support turns our mission from an idea into a vibrant reality. Thanks for being a part of our journey.

President and CEO

STRATEGIC PROGRAMS

Education Programs

The quest of the Education Programs Team at Hands On Atlanta is to improve educational outcomes and directly confront systemic injustice for students and families across metro Atlanta. We aim to be the premier team tackling educational inequities for children from birth to 12th grade in partnership with our local institutions and organizations.

During SY23, four key programs anchored Hands On Atlanta's education portfolio and impacted more than 12,000 students across metro Atlanta: AmeriCorps, Discovery, Centers of Hope, and Meals4Kids.

AFTER SCHOOL LEARNING

We partnered with the Department of Parks & Recreation, to support after-school programming for 24 students through STEM and social-emotional learning activities at the Center of Hope, located at the MLK Recreation and Aquatic Center.
