WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN

Civic Fellows pursue their civic leadership goals by leading services projects at their nonprofit partner sites. Responsibilities include recruiting volunteers, training and supervising volunteers during project and debriefing with partner after project is finished.

Leadership outcomes include a highly developed understanding of the role non-profits play in meeting community needs, expertise in fundraising to support non-profit sustainability and project management. Fellows also demonstrate personal leadership skills such as conflict resolution, decision making, and problem solving as well as advanced people skills like delegation, providing and receiving feedback and team building.

The Hands On Atlanta Civic Leadership Program not only provided me with a comprehensive understanding of volunteer management and engagement but also delivered training sessions that challenged my self-awareness. It can be overwhelming to know you will be required to develop and execute creative strategies to fundraise and assist non-profit agencies with critical needs—thankfully CLP gives substantial support for you to succeed. As an emerging or established leader in Atlanta, participating in CLP will allow you to have a deeper connection to Atlanta by addressing its most pressing social issues through community engagement.”

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead 8 projects from September - April

  • Recruit, engage, and manage Hands On Atlanta volunteers

  • Attend bi-monthly trainings

  • Fundraise for the Civic Leadership Program

  • Support the needs of your nonprofit partner

  • And more!

I am honored and proud to be a graduate of Hands On Atlanta’s Civic Leadership Program. CLP taught me to be a well-rounded leader in volunteerism by providing training and hands-on experience with a local organization. As a civic fellow, we received training in fundraising, implicit bias & privilege, and board responsibilities. We also had fun socials to get to know the other civic fellows better. I learned to be more comfortable with fundraising efforts and leading large groups of volunteers. I felt at home with other volunteers who are just as dedicated to serving our community as I am and I’m excited to use my skills from CLP to continue volunteering around Atlanta.”
