For the 2023 edition of Hands On Atlanta Week, presented by Delta Air Lines, more than 2,500 volunteers supported over 50 nonprofits and schools at 250 projects! The focus for the week prioritized projects around our three strategic impact areas - Food Security, Educational Equity and Environmental Sustainability. Check out all the impact in this recap.
Over the course of just 2 days, close to 6,000 volunteers came together to pack almost 1.5 million meals that will be distributed here locally in Metro Atlanta. Hands On Atlanta was there with support staff volunteers to ensure the Million Meal Pack at State Farm Arena and the 9/11 Day of Remembrance at Mercedes-Benz Stadium hit their meal packing goals. The Atlanta Hawks are rallying the Atlanta community to pack more than 1 million meals for Georgia families facing food insecurity. The Million Meal Pack happens July 16 at State Farm Arena and we need about 200 Support Staff volunteers to help ensure the meals get packed so families get fed.
DECA is a nonprofit student association that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management, and they will be hosting their annual International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Atlanta in April. DECA is bringing 20,000 high school students to Atlanta for the event, and they need more than 1,000 VOLUNTEERS to participate as judges for career-related competitive events at the Georgia World Congress Center on April 24 and/or 25.
CareerVillage.org acts as a community of adults who educate, inspire, and give confidence to the young people who need it most.
How it Works
Students ask questions about any career on CareerVillage.org.
Volunteers can respond to questions on the site and get emailed new questions matching your set of skills and expertise.
Volunteers answer questions all from the convenience of their smart phones or computers!
The Scholarship Academy (TSA), is a nonprofit founded by a recipient of over $200,000 in scholarships, teaches low- income and first-generation high school students how to create realistic college funding strategies.
Through in-school curriculum modules, financial aid counselor trainings, and access to an innovative scholarship planning platform, The Virtual Scholarship Center, we connect students to local/state-based scholarship resources that enable them to pursue debt-free degrees.
How it Works
Students sign up for virtual office hours via their virtual scholarship center account
Based on availability and interest, volunteers (you) will help students:
Understand their Financial Award Letter
Identify additional private aid
Re-negotiate their financial aid packages
Edit scholarship essays
Be My Eyes is a free mobile app with one main goal: to make the world more accessible for blind and low-vision people. The app connects blind and low-vision individuals with sighted volunteers and companies from all over the world through a live video call.
How it Works
Someone who is visually impaired and in need of assistance will open the open and make their request.
Volunteers will get a notification on their phone with details about the request and the support needed.
Volunteers can respond to the request with a video call (think Skype or Facetime) and solve the problem in real-time.
The Tarjimly mobile app allows the world’s 3 billion multilingual speakers to remotely volunteer their language skills as translators and interpreters for the 65 million displaced people. Today, it is the most accessible translator service in the world.
How it Works
A refugee or someone who needs a translator or interpreter uses the Tarjimly app to make their request for assistance in the language needed.
Volunteers will get a notification on their phone if their languages match, with details about the request and the support needed.
Volunteers can respond to the request with a live chat session where they can send text, voice notes, documents, or even get on a live phone call.

One way you can help is by emailing notes, letters and cards of appreciation to residents at A.G. Rhodes. You may mail them to the activities departments of one or all of our three locations listed below, and they will distribute them.
