TeamWorks! Kickoff
Saturday August 17 From 9:45 AM - 12:00 PM (NW Atlanta)
Hands On Atlanta TeamWorks! is a program that betters metro-Atlanta through meaningful service projects. It’s a program that affords you the opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others and our communities, and to develop friendships with your fellow volunteers along the way. It’s an opportunity to challenge yourself and get involved! Kick-off is an orientation - a chance for volunteers to meet, form teams, and learn about the projects planned for that round. We are switching up this round and adding a mini-service project that will benefit one of our nonprofit partners. For five to six Saturdays after the kick-off, teams compete to have the highest turnout at service projects that impact a variety of causes and communities throughout Greater Atlanta.
Boys and Girls Club at Peachcrest Learning Garden Community Work Day
Saturday August 17 From 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (Decatur)
Partners in Action is installing a learning garden at The Boys and Girls Club at Peachcrest right across the street from Peachcrest Elementary. The garden allows children at the club to learn how to grow food from seed to market and learn leadership skills along the way. We prepare food in their wonderful kitchen and give lessons on nutrition and plant-based food. Join us as we help maintain this great resource that will benefit the students through hands on learning in the garden. Green thumbs not necessary. The garden not only serves as a learning garden but it will create healthier communities by inspiring young people, parents and community members to grow food for healthier bodies and to decrease food insecurity. We will finish the herb garden, remove invasives along the border fence, plant additional pollinator plants and weed the beds if necessary.
Loridans Park - Invasive Species
Saturday, August 17, 2019 From 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM (Buckhead)
Loridans Park is one of City of Atlanta's newest parks and is the beginning stages of becoming a valuable greenspace for the community. On August 17th, Livable Buckhead and the North Buckhead Civic Association are teaming up with our friends at Trees Atlanta to lead a community workshop focused on the targeted identification of a variety of common Invasive Plant Species of the Georgia Piedmont region, as well as efficient removal methods of those plants. The main objective of this workshop is to empower the community group to take on invasive plant removal projects in their local greenspace with the auxiliary goal of educating individuals about invasive plants that may be present in their own yards and landscapes. We invite you, your families, neighbors and groups interested in making an impact to attend!
Serving Seniors at A.G. Rhodes Health & Rehab Cobb
Saturday August 24 From 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM (West Atlanta)
For the 5th consecutive year, Atlanta’s kids and cops will compete on the baseball diamond and lead Atlanta communities in goodwill and fellowship. Its purpose is to create an environment of competition, trust and respect between two communities who often struggle to find common ground and to open lines of communication so often searching for a connection. We are looking for volunteers to volunteer in a unique and unconventional way. We need you to come out and “S.I.T. and Serve” at the Safe at Home Game. S.I.T. stands for Simple, Intentional and Transformative.
